Dr., Emeritus Professor, (BSc, MDiv, PhD, DDiv h.c.), Department of Religious Studies, and Senior Research Associate in the School of Public Health and Family Medicine, at the University of Cape Town

Convenor of the LCLI, he is Emeritus Professor in Religious Studies, Senior Research Associate, School of Public Health & Family Medicine, and Co-Director of the International/African Religious Health Assets Programme at the University of Cape Town, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Social Sciences & Health Policy, Wake Forest School of Medicine, USA. Research foci include religion and public health, religion in public life generally, social ethics, and globalization. Previously Editor of the Journal of Theology for Southern Africa and of New South African Outlook, he has over 150 publications including Religion and the Health of the Public: Shifting the Paradigm with Gary Gunderson. Jim, with a history in the Christian anti-Apartheid movement, is an 11th generation South African.
